Naevus (mole)

Naevi are benign neoplasms containing melanocytes, i.e. the cells that produce melanin. They can occur on any part of the body and exist in different sizes, shapes and colours; their surface can either be flat or raised, smooth or rough. Their colour may range from brown to black, with rare exceptions of blue or reddish hues. Although naevi are mainly harmless and asymptomatic, they might in some cases be perceived as unaesthetic.
