Semiochemical

Semiochemicals are chemical substances that transmit signals and information from one nerve cell to another. These chemical messengers enable communication between cells, tissue and organs. There are different groups of semiochemicals, including hormones (e.g. cortisol, testosterone and oestrogen), neurotransmitters (e.g. noradrenaline, serotonin and dopamine) and pheromones (olfactory cues).
