Lentigo and age spot

Lentigines are benign pigmented spots. Their appearance may vary in terms of shape, size and colour.

Freckles and senile (age) spots belong in the same dermatological category. The former are the result of a genetic predisposition and tend to become more visible when exposed to UV rays; the latter are caused by a localised overproduction of melanin in the epidermis resulting from intense and unprotected exposure to sunlight.
