Insulin resistance (HOMA)

The HOMA index (Homeostasis Model Assessment) measures insulin resistance, i.e. a condition where body cells become less sensitive to the insulin produced by the pancreas (e.g. muscles can no longer assimilate glucose). Insulin resistance is a risk factor as well as a crucial sign of type 2 diabetes. If regularly monitored, it can enable the prevention and early diagnosis of the disease.
