Enzymes
Enzymes mainly consist of proteins and act as catalysts that accelerate biochemical reactions. In the human body, for example, enzymes break down food into its basic constituents, convert substances, transmit stimuli and are involved in a number of different functions including digestion, metabolism, respiration, growth and the transfer of genetic material.
